1965 Ford Mustang

This is the car that I have owned since my original 65’ Fastback was stolen in 1980 back when I was 18. This one had been repainted so many times before with crappy paint that I figured I better learn how to do it right myself. In 2000 I started, and after taking two years of Auto-Body and Paint classes in Goldenwest College in Huntington Beach; taught by Cecil Hernandez a master painter that has restored many of Jay Leno’s cars, I began my first project. The multilayers of crap had to come off, so I stripped all paint off of it with industrial paint stripper and razor blades. With a clean surface to work on, I repaired the imperfections over 4 months and hit it with several coats of new primer. Cecil; would have had my wait and block it longer, but I was anxious. I couldn’t wait, so I re-painted it with PPG Ferrari Red Clear Coat/Base Coat paint. The front window and all front and rear window seals were removed and replaced. Interior seats were recovered and new carpeting installed. New door panels and rear package tray were also installed. The front end suspension was completely replaced, as well as all 4 brake cylinders and the master cylinder. The original engine crapped out the same day I had bought it. The asshole had put 90 wt gear oil in her to keep the knocking silent. I replaced it with a 1968 302 that I rebuilt and added a nice Sig-Erson Performer Cam. Carter 600 AFB Crab provides the gas through the stock Ford intake, (I have a new Edelbrock performer just waiting to go in). Blackjack headers still work fine on her and the radiator is a new 4 cell with standard fan and additional electric fan for cooling when it’s hot out. New chrome was obtained from the Pomona Auto Swapmeet and all emblems and bezels were also replaced. Most of the restoration products came from Larry’s Mustang in Fullerton California. This is a great place to get all the Mustang products you will need. The Mustang used to love cruising down Whittier Boulevard in the 80’s and drag racing an occasional Mopar or Chevy. It’s a shame they cracked down on cruising. Here are pics of the restoration in progress

Here is the mustang in 2001 after the old paint had been removed and a fresh coat of "speedprime" had been applied.
